The Marginalized Likelihood Ratio Test for Detecting Abrupt Changes

نویسنده

  • Fredrik Gustafsson
چکیده

The generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test is a widely used method for detecting abrupt changes in linear systems and signals. In this paper the marginalized likelihood ratio (MLR) test is introduced for eliminating three shortcomings of GLR, while preserving its applicability and generality. Firstly, the need for a user-chosen threshold is eliminated in MLR. Secondly, the noise levels need not be known exactly and may even change over time, which means that MLR is robust. Finally, a very eecient exact implementation with linear in time complexity for batch-wise data processing is developed. This should be compared to the quadratic in time complexity of the exact GLR.

A New Approximation for the Null Distribution of the Likelihood Ratio Test Statistics for k Outliers in a Normal Sample

Usually when performing a statistical test or estimation procedure, we assume the data are all observations of i.i.d. random variables, often from a normal distribution. Sometimes, however, we notice in a sample one or more observations that stand out from the crowd. These observation(s) are commonly called outlier(s). Outlier tests are more formal procedures which have been developed for detec...

Detecting, estimating and correcting multipath biases affecting GNSS signals using a marginalized likelihood ratio-based method

In urban canyons, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) multipath interferences affect position estimation based on global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). This paper proposes to model the effects of NLOS multipath interferences as mean value jumps contaminating the GNSS pseudo-range measurements. The marginalized likelihood ratio test (MLRT) is then investigated to detect, identify and estimate the cor...

A Two-filter Off-line Solution to Optimal Detection

The problem of detecting abrupt changes of the dynamics in linear systems is addressed. First the generalized likelihood ratio test for detection in a state space model is examined. This test can be interpreted as a simultaneous maximum likelihood (ML) estimator of the jump time and jump magnitude. The problem is that this test requires a large number of matched lters which increases linearly w...

On the Use of Neural Networks in the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test for Detecting Abrupt Changes in Signals

With the advent of efficient algorithms and fast computers for training neural networks, it is now feasible to employ neural network predictors in the generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test for the purpose of detecting abrupt nonstationary changes in the dynamics of a time series. We examine some of the special issues involved and present some simulation results validating the new hybrid algor...
